After reverencing the returning Light, I went downstairs to the main altar and unfolded the Newgrange prayer flag given to me on Summer solstice 2001, and hung it on the altar. It shows the symbols of the back wall, where the light strikes at winter solstice. I then mediated over the solstice photos from a couple of my books, and played the CD showing the play of light over the back wall of Newgrange at winter solstice.
Last night, I did reverence to the spirits of all those relations who would return to this world over the Longest Night, and burned some incense. I reverenced the guardian spirits who dwell in the barrows and hollow hills, whose powers are greatest on this night.
I really am Finn/Irish at heart, this time of year. I walk the paths of my ancestors. We all have our rituals of the Season.
