The Trip, another installment...Hoover Dam

Let's see, we left our heroine heading out of Vegas...

I decided to check out Lake Mead, since it was sorta on the way, and before you can figure out where you turned, you're on the road to Hoover Dam. So I went with the flow and went to Hoover Dam. And was glad I did, despite the construction that had traffic backed up horribly on the road there. I just checked wildflowers with my fieldglasses while I inched along.

I turned into the big parking garage, not even thinking twice about the $5 parking fee---I was on VACACTION. Just the garage is an engineering feat, wedged in a canyon. The dam was awesome, and there is something about the sheer power of the site that overwhelmed me in a wave of raw emotion. I am sensitive to the power of place, and this has it all. There is an amazing dedication plaza, with art deco statues, and astronomic alignments and all manner of interesting things. I walked across the dam, and was amazed to find panels with a dedication invoking the Great Spirit and the local land. But of course, they wanted it to last, and knew they needed the cooperation of the local powers-that-be.

Yikes, it's late and I'm due somewhere. Will edit this post for more info later...
