Dancing Thru

Not Too Extraordinary

Well, last night I saw League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. It was a lot of fun, and had some great visuals. But it wasn't League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I joke it was "the comic book version" - which is ironic for something that was a series of comics (now graphic novel). Don't get me wrong---I enjoyed it, but it had nothing to do with Alan Moore's version. Not plot, not characters (well, Alan Quartermain was almost there, and Captain Nemo was close), not general vision. It was more like an episode of Secret Adventures of Jules Verne, where we'd borrowed some of the same literary characters ("Tom Sawyer" was rather "young Jules Verne" in my opinion). And a few of the lines were a little too arch--"Phineas Fogg did around the world in 80 days." But I'd recommend it as a good summer romp.

Then go get the graphic novel and read it, for a completely different experience.
