Memorial Day, if only we would remember...

On Memorial Day, we justly remember the fallen from the many wars, starting with the great war of Brother Against Brother, the American Civil War. That is, after all, where it all originated. We need to remember the sacrifices made by the few for the many.

What we also need to remember, now more than ever, of why war is a Very Bad Idea. And how one should never engage in it without consideration, and how it should be a last resort. Some actions are such that the only possible response is war. But others...options need to be explored thoroughly. It is a solution of death and maiming, on both sides. A solution of destruction and attrition. That seems to get lost in ideology and jingoism, sometimes.

And so we should remember, remember it all.
