The problem with filters

I'm currently working for a cybersecurity company. The problem is that I'm trying to do research, and keep hitting filters on the corporate firewall. I just had "The Problem with Translating DITA" blocked as "Gambling." Hmm, maybe the whole industry is gambling on the DITA standard. Earlier today, I got something that was blocked because of "Weapons" Again, huh? I always heard the pen was mightier than the sword.

I'm not even going to try arguing that with the admins. The last time I did, it was Japanese tsunami maps that were blocked as porn. On the CBS news web site. Admittedly, it wasn't work related, but you'd think they would let major network news photos through. I got back a probably canned response that it was confirmed as porn. So I just went home and viewed my pornographic maps of tsunami wave strength from there, rather than on my lunch hour. But I was mildly annoyed. (Boy, if you were seeing pornographic images in those, you've got a better imagination than I do!)

I still haven't been able to download the trial of Adobe Creative Suite, and I hear it's probably a firewall problem, from scuttlebutt on the Framemaker writer site. We'll be getting an upgrade license, anyway, but it's annoying to find ways the filters block legitimate links.
