The House Rework Continues...

Well, I knew Sunday was going to be a loss (club meeting in Sacramento, picking up friend on the way in Davis) and it was. I left the house at 8:30 and got back at close to the same time that evening. Then got sucked into watching "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" on TCM. Okay, I just like old John Wayne movies, especially this one, where he bloodlessly resolves an Indian war and there is much talk of wanting to avoid death and killing. And it's been 20+ years since I've seen it.
But Saturday was productive. I got more done around the house, and then went to the discount furniture place I like, just to look, mind you. And there was The Bookcase, a 5-shelf barrister bookcase taller than I am, for about half of what I'd expect to pay, on SALE. I wandered around looking at other items while I mentally justified it, because it was exactly what I wanted to replace the folding bookcase that I've been talking about replacing for YEARS. Yeah, I ended up getting it--what credit cards are for, I guess. Chris helped me get it into the house. Then I started emptying the old bookcase.
Hmm, I found things that had been lost for years, behind that bookcase. And a truly frightening layer of dust under and behind it. Because the new bookcase is wider, I also had to reorganize furniture. I will also have to think of a way of tying it off to the wall, maybe with fishline, because I really don't want it falling over if we have a big earthquake someday. It felt good, doing the reorg, though I've now got a couple of heaps of things to sort through, photos, art, greeting cards, things that ended up in the bookcase because I was Going to Do Something With It, and that got it out of the way. And now I'm seeing how better to reorg the entire living room. Hmm, this project could go through spring, at this rate. But it feels great!
While I was watching the movie, I also finally packaged up the George Foreman grill that Jana left with me (ahem) Christmas of 2002, because she couldn't take it back on the plane. Odd size required building a box, and that was why it took so long to finally get to it. I'd told her husband I'd send it to him eventually. It went to the post office this morning. Yay! I'm on a roll!
