I don't know why it only struck me this week, sitting in a high-powered engineering meeting, that I was the only female in the room. Since the CMG manager was secretly demoted to keep her job (something about the new edict on how many direct reports you have to have to stay a manager), I've been it. I'm also the only person on my level in a lot of the meetings, period. I seem to being included, lately, in meetings in a much more rarified crowd, where not even the coders go, and the folks there joke that I'm their snitch on what's really going on in R&D. I'm not sure if this means I should be flattered or worried.
